Midge Pippel
About the Artist:

Kay's career in corporate accounting and her husband's as a retail store designer took her from Oklahoma to Denver to 30 years in Milwaukee before retiring to Bradenton in 2008.

Kay is a downhill skier from her years in Colorado and an avid scuba diver which led her to becoming a docent at Mote Aquarium in Sarasota last year.

While in Milwaukee, she and 37 other basket weaving enthusiasts helped start Lake Country Basket Guild. Today there are over 300 members.

Kay has traveled to basket making conventions all over the Midwest and studied with some of the very best teachers in the country.

One of the biggest thrills of weaving came in February of 2010 when she participated in a Caribbean cruise organized by her Wisconsin Guild where baskets were woven each day at sea.

"There is always another technique, a new material, or another basket pattern just around the corner and I can't wait to get my hands on it!!"
